Problems Displaying Photo Images?

Are you having problems displaying the Panorama and other photo images on the GHS Class of 1965 web site? There could be a number of reasons for this problem:

  1. FIRST, BE SURE TO CLICK THE REFRESH BUTTON - Be sure to first click the Refresh/Reload button on your web browser, just in case you have outdated web pages for the photo area loaded on your machine. A refresh guarantees that you will download the latest/current web pages. If that doesn't cure the problem, read on...

  2. NOT WAITING FOR IMAGES TO DISPLAY - If you are connected to the internet via a phone line, you may not be allowing enough time for the image(s) to display, especially for any of the larger images displayed if you click on any of the thumbnails. Note that the large images for large Panorama Photo pages are each 200-300K in size, so be patient if you have a slow connection!

  3. BUSY/'DOWN' ISP - There's a chance your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is busy during a peak time, or your ISP or 'Net access company may be temporarily shut down due to internal problems. Try accessing the GHS '65 home page at a later, off-peak time and see if the images display.

  4. AOL (America On-Line) IS YOUR ISP - Occasionally, if an AOL user can't display any images, a retry again later might help get the images to display. So, if #2 above doesn't fix your problem, AOL users click HERE to access AOL's Support area for more assistance. (Members: You may need to sign in for more help.)

Don't know if you have AOL?? If your email address looks like: <your_name>@aol.com, you have it!

  5. COMPLETE PANORAMA PHOTO NOT DISPLAYING - The complete version of the panorama photo (all 5 sections 'stitched' together into one wide image) is saved in Adobe's Acrobat Reader format (PDF). This provides for a 'clean' view of this especially wide image. If your computer does not have Adobe's free Acrobat Reader installed and you do not get a prompt for installation, you will need to install it manually. Click on this button for further information:

  6. STILL HAVING TROUBLE? - If you still cannot get any images to display, you may EMAIL me, Jeff Luther, for further help. I will try to assist you but here is what I will want to know:
  A. Which operating system (Windows, Macintosh) are you using and which version?

  B. Which browser (Internet Explorer/IE, Firefox, Netscape, etc.) are you using and which is the version of that product? (You can find version information in the Help/About menu option for your browser.)

  C. What type of internet connection do you have? (modem/phone line, DSL, cable, T1, etc.)

  D. Are there other web sites, or other occasions, where you have had image display problems?

  E. And specifically, let me know the following:
- Describe the type(s) of problems are you having.
- Describe any error message(s) you are receiving.
- Do the Yearbook web pages come up blank?
- Does text appear on these pages but no images appear (i.e., blank boxes around text)?
- Do the thumbnail images appear in the Panorama Photo or other section, but you can't display any larger images when you click on a thumbnail on those web pages?
- Can you display images off another web site? If so, send me a link to that page so I can see what they may be doing differently.

UPGRADING YOUR BROWSER:
I consider upgrading a 'last resort' to solving a display problem, so if you have anything close to the latest version of the major browser applications, upgrading should not be required. As an example: running on my Windows XP machine I have the current Internet Explorer v6, Mozilla's Firefox v1.0, as well as Netscape v4.79 (from 2001) and the current Netscape v7 and all thumbnail and larger Panorama Photo images display ok for those 4 applications.

You might want to check out search engine Vivisimo's list of web-complaint browsers for Windows, Mac and Linux machines. (Note that Microsoft's Internet Explorer isn't even on Vivisimo's list, though IE accounts for some 90-95% share of the browser market! Take their conspicuous omission as a grassroots movement to unseat Microsoft's virtual browser monopoly.)

** READ BROWSER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS & COMPATIBILITY ISSUES BEFORE UPGRADING **
In general, my experience is that Microsoft's Internet Explorer is a more robust and compatible product with the code comprising most of the world's web sites, as well as being much more popular among users. Depending on your browser and version number, if you need to upgrade to the latest version for either IE or Netscape, or the new Mozilla Firefox browser, click on Internet Explorer v6, Mozilla/FireFox v1 or Netscape v7 . If you use a different browser, check with their web site for any version upgrade and/or compatibility issues.

AND TO HELP THE REST OF US - If you have had a display problem and gotten it resolved, kindly contact me via EMAIL describing the problem and your solution so I can update this Help page and assist others in getting access to the GHS 1965 Panorama Photo images. Thanks!
